This month I caught up with Matt from Zeralynx, the printers of the Village news for us. He is the Managing Director of the company, originally heralding from Kidderminster in Worcestershire and after a few  other short careers settled in Taunton in 1995 and married a local  girl from Bishops Lydeard. He went back to his roots from a family business of printing and started a trainee position at a Franchise Copyshop in the Town Centre, several years later buying shares in the business. During this time he became proficient in all aspects of Customer Service, Graphic Design and learnt to operate all manner of digital, lithographic presses and finishing equipment. In late 2001 the Franchise changed its terms and was wanting more and more from the owners so they parted company, an opportunity arose to purchase another printers that had been trading since 1985 so he snapped it up, rapidly modernising their processes, updating equipment and making a website. The turnover increased fourfold in the first two years and at the same time their first child was born. Year on year with continued investment in technology coupled with some old fashioned values the business has grown into something now employing 9 staff and occupying a 6000sqft unit in Norton Fitzwarren Matt can still to this day be seen operating machinery, answering phones and getting stuck in where needed. ‘Zeralynx has never been a 9-5 job’ he says, ‘people want printing and we bend over to get it to them’ They don’t advertise a lot and most of their client base has been built on word of mouth recommendations.  ‘We consider ourselves a local printers, we employ local people, supply a lot of local and some nationwide businesses, we support a few local Charities with free printing too’ Every day he gets asked for different things, some of which they have never done before, but always find a way around using his and the Zeralynx Teams combined 75 years of experience.

Daily they can do anywhere between 10 and 40 different jobs ranging from photocopies  to business cards to leaflets and multipage brochures these can be just 1 copy or 50,000 prints, Matt is also a keen supporter of a Carbon neutral scheme whereby every tonne of paper he prints on so many trees are replanted even going so far as to go out himself to help with the replanting (see top left).
