You’ve probably noticed lots of activity going on recently at Memorial Field in North Petherton.
We’re creating a great new recreation space for families, which has been made possible thanks to the generous funding received from Hinkley Point C Community Fund, Viridor Credits, Sedgemoor District Council, North Petherton Playing Fields Charitable Trust, the Town Council and two local developers.
Since it was first conceived over two years ago, a team of volunteers has carried out an in-depth consultation amongst all age groups, involving schools, youth groups, parents and others to identify what the community wants. We then asked six specialist playground construction companies to convert these needs into costed proposals. After considerable negotiation, HAGS were chosen to carry out the work on the basis that theirs was the most imaginative scheme providing best value for money.
The Memorial Park will be finished in late November. It will consist of new playgrounds for infants, juniors and teenagers, a multiuser games area (MUGA), a trim trail and a seven piece outdoor gym, all connected by a continuous running/scootering/cycling/walking track around the perimeter. There are picnic tables, benches and a recycling station. The huge mound of earth dug out will be used to landscape the area close to the MUGA with trees and other planting. We also have plans for a boules pitch close to the main gate. Parking is available at the Community Centre car park just 300 yards (4 minutes) away, for those who don’t live within easy walking distance. Lots more information and regular up-dates can be found on our Facebook page, “Memorial Park Project.”
